Unrelated note....

On an unrelated note, i watched Lord of the ring: Return of the King the other night, continues to be the saddest film ever, Spent majority of the film crying because Sam was crying and Frodo was crying and pippin and merry were crying. Then Frodo leaves and everyones crying and im crying and yeah, you get it. If you havent seen it then go watch it.

Alternative Miss World

We have just started a project that revolves around the Alternative Miss World arts show by Andrew Logan. the show contains a lot of wild outfits and models of all shapes and sizes. the outfits seen in the show are much like my

For the project i have looked at the different styles of outfits and i have tried to create some wild costumes for my models.
I have had a few ideas like making life size cutouts of my creations and putting them around my home town to see peoples reactions.
I have also thought about making a garment or two and printing my designs onto the garent, mixing the wild and standard mediums and having a large contrast between the two.

Some of my final designs

Tom Rakewell: This design is showing that tom is carrying the weight of the entire city on his shoulders, because everyone wants a peice of him and his cash. I did both male and female versions of this outfit because i was unsure if i wanted to twist it so tom was a woman or not, but i think im going to keep him as a man.

Tom Rakewell: This deisng of tom was supposed to show how large his ego was, depicted by the oversized bowtie and buttons. I think it was an ideal thing to get in that he had a large ego and thought highly of himself, because that was one of his downfalls.

Sarah's designs were supposed to look like a scantly clad view of nature, and it shows how vunerable the character can be.

Sarahs father is supposed to be adoning the symbol of the rising sun, this was to show more that sarah's father is a foreign body in the story, and the reader/viewer does not see that much of him.

Bedlam patient. This character was supposed too look wacky and scary, so i dressed him as a clown type character because so many people dislike clowns. spots are usually the correct attire for clowns, and personally i think the big boots give him a more edgy, uneasy feel.

Trying to get golden hair

Nick Cave soundsuits

I found this show of nick caves soundsuits on another blog that looks at artists and how they work. I really like the look of these outfits because of how odd and unhuman they are, When i look it them it sparks questions i would ask the deisnger, How did you make them? what are they? how did you make them?

Rationale

For my project i am going to make a series of designs/illustrations revolving around the rakes progress. I am responding to an array of artists that have made unusual collaborations with clothing lines to create a unique catwalk fashion style, the collabs i am looking at the most are Lucy Mcrae - Bart Hess, Merce Cunningham - Comme De Garcons, Walter Van Bierendonck - Chris+Tibor.

The illustrators i am looking the most at are Hayden williams and Gino Erana, both are professional illustrators that have been commissioned to do work for magazines. I will try to do a mixture of styles in my work, probably using graphic markers and photoshop more than anything else because it gives the best sharpness and cleaness.

The scene i have decided to illustrate is the final scene in the mad house, i chose this scene because i found it to have the most interesting characters in it. the characters in it include Tom, Sarah, Sarah's father, upper class women, mad men and other lower class patients.

I really think i could extend these characters and push them too their limits by creating clothing that either fits their personality completely, or making them wear the complete opposite of what you see them in.

Getting a better look on fashion

Lately ive been working a lot like other designers to try and get a better outlook on fashion and how i can contort the fabrics to fit the human form.

I think dooing this had given me a better insight as to how i can edit my designers, my designs at the minute are very refined and not very out there. Im really hoping doing this physical work will help me branch out into the wider world of illustration and inspire me to do some proper wacky designs.
