Armour like corsets?

This is kind of being pulled back into my work no, instead of going off on a tangent and trying to relate everything to life in worksop etc.

I simply got this idea when I was looking at the burlesque, I was thinking of was earlier corsets would have looked like.
When looking at this, it looks like the type of armour a women would have worn, even though its not armour at all, it just has the kind of feel to it.
The roughness of it and the flat, solid look it has makes it look like it was built for protection rather than vanity.
This corset was from the 16th century, and was actually a corset cover.

Unlike armour, this corset isn't very ornate which is what I like most about armours and other corsets. they look like they're expensive to just touch. When you look at some they have all of these fancy etchings and designs on them, which visually makes them more appealing to everyone.

Burlesque

Im going to start looking at burlesque because of the giant feathers they wear on their heads, much like they do in cabaret.

The feathers are almost like a symbol, once you see them you know exactly what you are watching.
This kind of work really relates to my work with the orbs sprouting from peoples heads, as the feathers just kind of appear from nowhere and come into existence.

Burlesque itself is a very.. sexy/raunchy show, showing women in tight corsets or less, which like my miley cryrus research, really relates to life in worksop, as on a Saturday night you can regularly see women going out in tight corsets or skimpy dresses/tops.

If I was going to take some inspiration from this I would probably mix it with life in worksop as much as I can, and then add the giant plumes coming from their heads as an addition, just because it makes it even funnier to have something sprouting from them. In a way, the feather kind of justifies the women dressing this skimpy, it puts us in the perception that they are going to do a show and everything is ok, where as if you take the feather away you lose all sense of it being enjoyable and the girls turn back into skimpily dressed tarts.

Intrests - Miley Cyrus / Miley Citrus

Im not referencing Miley because of her outfits or because of what she does in her videos, because thats not her, shes just told what to do and wear, because her outfits are either a little slutty (even if she looks good in them) or just mundane and boring, unlike Lady gaga who actually breaks the boundries of what can be worn. Im referencing her because of how relateable she is to every 13-19 year old girl in worksop. She just pushes the boundries with the intention of pissing people off and causing controversy, which a lot of girls in my town do, everyones either pregnant or sleeping with everyone elses boyfriends, which i find hilarious. So i think if you just dumped her in the middle of worksop and took away her fame, she'd just be another generic girl craving someone elses man. (sorry miley, Ily)
Here are some pictures that actually put her in the worksop fashion trends:

Intrests - Lady gaga

So today i had a review with jon and we went through my fmp, i was really stuggling and panicking with it cause i didnt know what to do and the topic i'd chosen had just fizzled out. so after a nice lengthy talk with him, we went over what intrests me, references i can make and artists i can look at. to start off with, im gunna lok at music intrests to make my work start jumping out and catching my eye, and the person who i want to kick that off is my queen bitch Lady Gaga.

I love Lady Gaga for so many reasons, she's just so inventive and knows what she wants to do with every video she directs. in her videos she always wears at least 1 really weird costume that makes you think "what the fuck?", i love it cause she just really doesnt give a shit what people think when she has it on. Her outfits really speak out to me cause they're similar to all the work thats coming out of my head, its inpractical and nobody dares to think about wearing it themselves!!
Here are a few examples of the stuff shes done that i love:

Daphne Guinnes

I love this glove for too many reasons, that and its really fucking expensive!
The glove kind of reminds me of saurons Gauntlet from Lord of the rings, but a lighter, more good kind.

The glove was unveiled in a kinf of Fairy tale way, Daphne was hidden under a cloth and awaited her true loves kiss to awaken, the glove can be retracted and worn as a hand glove or as an evening glove.

maurizio andreuccetti armour

Im still deciding if i like this artists work or not, it doesnt tie in directly with what im doing but it has a sense of it, (if you know aht im getting at? if not, fuck off). It may not be armour but the density of it and the fact that it covers the entire body in an unusual way such as protective clothing does makes me think it could be a step forward into the fashion protection world.
Love the idea of spikes too! they just seem so evil yet gives the ultimate sense of security! (Back off or ima shank a bitch)

Religious armour - christianity

christianity itself has been included in armour for ages, usually with the boon that the lord will protect you. however, im looking more into the sense that christianity sees itself as an armour to protect its followers from harm. The armour is a metaphorical, stating that wearing the religion will hinder any harm that comes to you if it is sent from the devil.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."

I love the idea of this, this is what i intend to look at in my work.

Also, this armour would be fucking hilarious if the pope actually wore it!!!

The popes hidden secret

So i was wanting to do this kind of work where i exposed the pope, or in a sense jsut made fun of him because it was funny. I thought the idea of making him into some crossdressing biblical figure would be hilarious, mianly cause of all the debate it would spark. (lols)
If you can picture the actual pope dressed like this then i dare you not to laugh, cause it would be funny. and  thats all i want it too be.

Funny little doodle, featuring the pope

I did this little doodle the other day after seeing some of Soren bachs work, after I got into it I realised it looked abit like the pope, which just made me wee myself. I kinda have him a little story next to him, it's reads:
And so the pope looked on, wondering where life was taking him and he could only ask... Why? Why was his religion so fucked up? Why wasn't he aloud to look like this? Why did he love this so much? WHY?

Pom poms

These pom poms dont loko like they're made from any fabric, they look like the little polystyrene balls you get in pillows, teddies etc. We have a large amount of this at college to i might experiment a little bit with it, maybe if i mix it with dye/ink and glue? if a small scale one works i'll try and do a much larger one, that would be an end point for the idea of the orbs, actually having a giant orb for someone to wear.

Soren bach

I might try doing something like this, but maybe on a smaller scale.

Soren Bach is a recent graduate from the Royal College of Art, he worked commercially as a hairdresser but has recently broke out as a modern designer, already having 3 collections under his own name. The collection above is named "Graduation", it really interested my because of the use of pom poms in the first picture, it really stretches the idea of what a hat is and what a hat can be.

Hanna Whitehead

http://hannadiswhitehead.tumblr.com/

I really like this artists work, she kind of mixes what i percieve as fashion with fine art/performance. This particular picture above connects with my work both because of the sphere shape and the fact it looks like an abscure hat. Mostly is connects with my work because of how different it is, it looks weird and thats what i love!

I think im going to try and get in touch with the artist who did it (although i think shes french, bonjour, jampapple fromage?)

just checked again, shes from iceland, so is she icelandic? i dont know.

Peruvian hats

Ive started looking at peruvian hats for my project as its started going more into the meaning of the orbs and what they look like on the body. The type of hat i was thinking of hasnt really been done yet, but the closest variant i can find is these hats, which have been widely used through fashion in recent years.
