Reflecting on my work

Overall im both happy and annoyed with my work, everytime i do something i tend to get this new idea and it just messes up my whole dynamic. My idea has now gone onto making fun of political figures by making them model my clothes. I kinda think this would be funny.

I got this idea because i was thinking of the whole idea of making my own bound book for the exhibition, but now that i think about it, if i have a book just full of designs wont that just be another sketchbook?! arghhhh.
If i did that idea with the people like david cameron and john mann, i could actually make fun of them, which i would find more enjoyable than doing something i dont find interesting.

I really want my project to go in this direction, but its just finding the place to do it and the time to do it. i never have time to work at home, so im probably gunna go into college over the rest of half term just to get some work done.

Richard hamilton

I've found this new artist named richard hamilton, he's a painter and a collage artist, but i can't help but notice his collages look very fashion based! i love his work, he combines his painting and collage with real spaces, (i.e an empty room with plain walls and plug sockets).

His work looks really simple too, but with the amount of pictures piled into his one picture, it must be very complex and time consuming.

These pictures are from his work titles :Photomontage. I really like the look of them, they're just so weird and random, like the giant lolopop in that scene just looks so normal yet out of place.

Hannah Hoch

I can't remember if ive looked at hannah hoch before, i think i did when i first started looking at collage. I really liked her work because it seemed so free, i like to think my work is a lot like hers, even if mine is rubbish compared to it. Actually i dont think my works shitty at all, i'd rather believe mine and her work are on the same level, but just in different contexts. she enjoys going all out and wild in her work, just like me!!

Ive just started looking at more artists because ive kind of narrowed my knowledge base to like, 3 artists, so im just broadening it abitt now, so i can see new and fun ways to work. This work kind of shows me that i dont have to use body parts to do anything to a person, the picture with the scissors has some random brown square as a body, but it just looks right.

Réne Van Den Berg

This is one of the last artists im putting on to do with the shoes, the shoes they've designed don't tie in directly with what im doing but I still think they're super cool. They did a collaboration with Leanie Van Der Vyver to do her Scary Beautiful shoes. Originally he is an orthopaedic shoe designer, although now he concentrates mainly on fashion and these wild designs he does.

I really love this shoe (above), the shoe itself splits into two sections down the middle and you physically encase the wearers foot with it.

Caroline Sciancalelpre

I really like these shoes, mainly because they're not shoes at all. They're pedestals, they don't attach to the feet directly, the wearer just stands on top of them. I like them because of this little feature, the design is really weird and cool, but I don't like the fact that you can't walk around in them when you have them on. That takes the theme of them being a shoe away and makes them more of an installation or a interactive sculpture. The shoes have been hailed as the ultimate concept shoes.

If I was going to try and design some of these I'd want to make them into actual shoes, so all they'd really need is some strap that goes over the top of them to keep your feet held in. in a way I'd like to make them taller as well.

Noritaka Tatehana

I really liked all of the shoes that this designer makes. they kind of break the boundries as to what a shoe is. Although he's not the only person who actually does this. he did a lot of work with lady gaga, as her current form of shoes are his wild, High heeled without heels shoes.

these are the kind of shoes that I draw a lot on my models, simply because of how they look.

I'm probably gunna edit this later, im tired and im just babbling on with stuff now.

Leanie Van Der Vyver

This artist is mainly an industrial designer, but she made these shoes that were really interesting simply because of how impractical they are. the shoes themselves force the wearer to lean forward and walk like they are constipated.

Leanie Van Der Vyver did this project for her final project at her uni, her thesis revolved around the ideal that shoes had come to their limit, and we had made it so that we had the powers of god, because we change things to the extreme. So in her work she worked backwards, making her shoes unrealistic and horrid.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

So today we went on a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, although a lot of the work didnt relate to mine entirely, it was still great to see all this artowrk at the park. A favourite thing of mine there is this bench you sit on, and everytime you tap it, it plays a tune, its kinda incredible!
I really liked this big sculpture, although it wasnt actually in YSP, it was in wakefield. I love how its all just been thrown together and made out of trash, reminds me of the robots i made for my last project if im honest.

I really liked all this work by Ursula Von Rydingsvard, she had so many of these huge installations, i really liked the way you could look through them, reminds me of some really intricate cave system, or maybe a worm hole.

I spent most of the day with meg and chloe, actually love this girl, its not part of the project but im throwing the picture in cause she'll hate me for it, plus its important to show the fun you have on trips.
This piece was so fun, it was just this tiny figure, no bigger than a 1p coin stood in the middle of this big desert lookg canvas. Its was so mundane but looked like it had so much depth too it. I dont wanna make it sound like some really confusing artistic thing, cause too look at it was just interesting, it look like a game concept from a certain perspective.

Online book

I had a talk with jon earlier and i came to the conclusion that i want to take my work into the context of online editorial magazines. So we had this idea of maybe printing out my own little magazine thats just full of my own designs for the final piece, which really intrests me. Only thing is, i wanna get an animation in my exhibition with it, cause ive loved doing those. I might do a design magazine full of designs for each person in my animation then have the actual animations on my tablet as the centerpiece of my exhibition, but thats all im gunna think about on it for the moment, or i'll get side  tracked and do shit.

Animation without sound because yeah

Heres another animation i did, i was going to give it sound but i didnt in the end for 2 reasons,
1. i couldnt find the right sound effects and when i did the computer was just like "NOPE"
2. i recorded some stuff of my voice but i sound like a whiney fart coming out of an old mans arse so im not recording anything yet.

i might come back to it, but its just an experiment at the min, so yeah.

When i was sorting the images out i had to make 5 sets of gifs which was a ballache, and my internet kept crashing my computer which would wipe everything i'd done, (Alcohol had to be consumed to make me less angry).

Animation 3 - Rise and fall of models

So jon showed me the work of terry gilliam, and at first i was abit skeptical about trying out his style, but now ive tried it, i can't see myself doing anything else for a while! The animation took about 3 and a half hours to make, and is about 107 frames long, i ended up screwing up a lot of the frames by leaving knives and other things in the shot, so i had to redo a lot of it.
When i was uploading it i had to change the framerate to a 70ms gap inbetween shots so it wouldnt look as jumpy.

All in all i think the animation worked out really well, i'll definatly be doing this for a while, i wanna push the boundries with it, just go all out.

Another little Animation tester

Im really getting into this animation thing now, its just a ballache to do if you dont have the properstuff to do it on, im doing it on photoshop still, re editing an image over and over. i really like how choppy these are, it makes it known to people that it is a collage whilst looking like a video.

With this animation i wanted to push it out abit further boundy wise, which i why i used poo and a well known and loved super model. I'm about to show my friend mattand im sure he'll freak (sorry Matt).
The piggy cara isnt a gif, just a little collage i did before the gif, i still think its funny though.

Slava Mogutin

Chloe showed me this artist that she'd found and thought it would be good for my style of work.

After looking at some of the stuff he's done, i decided i didn't really think it connected majourley connect with my style, the collage he did do, but the rest dont really.

Animation Test - Fashion eats its eyes, but leaves a spare pair

Little tester i did with one of my pictures, its about
27 frames long and was a complete ballache to make, i dont know how liam does it. I did it by ajusting the same image on photoshop and saving it as a new jpeg each time. I really like how jumpy it is, it gives it this weird look to it.

When i do this again im gunna try and do it when its not 12:45am, cause im hella tired now.

Digital Collage

These are a few experiments i did on photoshop. I liked the idea of doing a digital collage after i had a talk with john about it, now that i've done these i need to figure out how to turn them into films... It'll probably be easiest to make them into gifs, and edit each frame on photoshop, so make the eyes blink and the tongue move... hmmmm.

Body prints

I enjoyed doing these prints from the body, the base idea for them was for me to completely cover myself and do a full body print, then i could have jused that as the life size illustration.

i really liked the image above, it was when the paint was only covering my belly button and nips. It kind of came out like a face which gives it a really funny look.

The above print is my favourite, the arms came out really well, but arms are the easiest thing to print so boo, no party for my success. The bottom print is a print of my entire front, it kind of looks like a garment, where my chest is are the shoulders, the rest being the lower body.
overall i think it worked out really well, i still think im going to do a full size body print, but i might do it and then collage over it in photoshop with some clothes, but i want to leave some of it showing. I like the idea that people will look at this and not guess that its me.

Animated Fashion Films

I tried my hand at doing my own little fashion films, its really hard to dp cause you have to replace all the eyes if you want them to blink, and the camera needs to be in one exact place if you want it too look the same each slide.

Overall i think this little animated worked out pretty well, i enjoyed the fact that the entire this cam from a print of my hand, and it somehow evolved into this character that nobody would expect.  the way its styles goes back into the work of Quentin Jones, her collages are really weird and look like they came straight from her imagination.

This is what i added to it after i made the GIF..

College of real people

So my sister way playin around with some cuttings I did and when I looked at her I had to take photos! They just look so creepy when you look at them, it's kind of like when you think a paintings eyes are following you!

Face press

After looking at Meredith Ostroms work, i decided to do my own little experiment using my face as a kind of template/press. i think it came out really well, i love that face that you have the peices missing where my face goes in. I really wanna do a large version of these, like a full body one, maybe naked, but nobody would see me do it obviously (cause none of you are ready for this jelly).
Then i could use that as a larger template to cover in weird ways, or in a way that would be one solid illustration.  hmmmmmm ideas are flowing

Working like Quentin Jones

In a weird way i really enjoyed doing these little gifs, although i started them out on my phone and every time i made one the app crashed so i ended up doing them on the internet. i had to use fabric paint on my face cause i didnt have any other paints in, luckily it didnt stain me at all and jsut wiped off!
Its really weird to see this stuff covering you, it kind of gives you this new identity and as i said about Quentins work being like breathing illustrations, this is exactly how you feel, you feel as if you're just drawing an add on to your body.

Meredith Ostrom

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCPDfEK6qP4

The link above goes to an interview with Meredith Ostrom.

i found this artist after viewing the interview of Quentin Jones, i found it really interesting how she prints using the body, and just how excited she gets when she does it. its kind of giving me new ideas on what i could do with my body to make illustrations, maybe some life size prints of the body as a basis instead of drawing out the actual figure.

I never realised she was in the 2009 film Boogie Woogie, which i have seen by the way. She graduated from new york univercity in fine art and drama.

Quentin Jones

I recently found this artist who helped Miley Cyrus with one of her short music videos, she works in a kind of Gif format video, eeverything is a frame and the pictures are put together to make the film.
The work is really interesting depending on what point you view it from, im viewing it from a fashion illustration side, so when i see these video's im looking at these women who are living, breathing illustrations.

I think im gunna try and do a little video like this, its a really itneresting and new way to work, i just need to find out what paint i can use to do it.

here is the video she helped miley cyrus with, its definatly on her more...artistic side i think, its supposed to look like its about bondage but it just knid of gives this weird feel to it, i feel kind of voyeur when i watch it because i feel like i should be turning away, but your eyes are just transfixed in the effects she's used on her.

Celebrity remodeling

With my project moving on, i started thinking of downscaling celebs, making them look like people from worksop, i had this nifty little idea that if you dressed them right and then jsut dumped them in worksop, they'd blend right in. The first one i thought of for that was miley cyrus because im pretty sure every girl in worksop bases there life choices off of hers.
By that i mean dressing like a tramp.

But then i had another idea of creating these large outfits, and these outfits would be directly linked to each character they were modelled on. The first is miley cyrus - wrecking ball. tis ofcourse is based from her song, wrecking ball, in which she is naked riding a demolition ball.
then we have Queen Elsa from frozen, this one wasnt really making fun of her, it was more just a designers depiction on her, i really liked putting the lions head in there as a little head bauble, it just looks right. In a way i kind of see this beingsomething that Lady gaga would wear, mainly due to those whack off shoes.
third we have Ke$ha - Tik Tok, i kind of got bored with this one, which is why it looks really shitty. but meh, i might revisit it, but in all honesty i think her time in my book has fizzled away.
Finally we have Beyonce as the Queen Bee, it really annoyed me cause everyone thought this was lady gaga, even though the model is black? this one was kind of making fun of beyonce, it made me laugh when i showed her ripe old age of 32 by giving her slightly drooping boobies, coming out from her short top. I did this because i saw an article about Madonna, everyone was shouting at her because shes so old and still doing these raunchy, half naked shows. But if i look as good as madonna when im 55, then i'll keep my kit off aswell.
The idea behind Beyonce's outfit wasnt the fact that she is the Queen Bee, its the idea that no matter how old you are, the nudity you do will always be frowned upon because of age, Madonna for being too old, Miley Cyrus for being too young, etc.
